For your consider a Gibson Br-6. Gibson partnered with the Chicago-based electronics company Barnes & Reinecke (BR) to design the BR series of amps that were subsequently manufactured at Gibson's Kalamazoo factory. The Br-6 puts out aproximatley 10 watts and was originally used with the Br-6 lap steel. Later the amps were sold separately and were used by a number of player from the 1950s.

The Br-6 has a clean tone but is tolerant of being driven to break up. Another of the under appreciated little Gibby amp. A great amp for the studio or recording in that the tone is extremely pleasing and quite flexible. The amp has been gone over and has new filter caps and other replacement of the electroytic cap and reistors out of specification. It also has had a power cord replacement. Its power transformer was replacement. Thanks to the folks at Mercury Magnetic for helping with the transformer selection. They are always helpful and make great stuff, a shoot out to them.

A properly functioning field coil amplifier is getting harder and harder to find. We painstaking made this one right and ready to play. When we got it there it didn’t disappoint. Most of these amps that are on the market are in need of component replacement or warrant a field coil speaker replacement. Not this gem, it is ready to perform.

There is something unique about the sound from the field coil speakers that captures that 50s vibe. A fun amp to play and record. Unlike many out there, this one was made right for a new modern player.
