A Gibson Lg0 that deserved the effort. 1964/65. Player grade and ready to gig. This guitar has that warm all mahogany tone that fits the mix. It is awaiting a pickup….. if you need the warm tone thst only an all mahogany, ladder braced guitar offers this guitar is for you. A real joy to play this one…
We had several of these all mahogany guitars to choice from on a recent trip. Of the group this guitar had the best sound to our ear. However, it also needed the most work to become a modern player. The guitar came to us needing a neck reset, and a rebinding. While the guitar is free from body cracks and was structurally sound, the top edges of the body was worn from it being played with missing binding.
So we got to work; the neck was reset, and sound hole braces were added to further stabilize the ladder bracing. The guitar was rebound with celluloid , the top was gently brought to the binding to eliminate wear, chips and other issues. This makes the guitar very comfortable to play. The guitar was top coated with nitrocellulose lacquer and leveled to bring it all together.
A rosewood bridge, bone saddle were added and the nut was reworked. 5/64th B and 4/64th T.
It can be a bit of a challenge to date these guitar, but this guitar has rounded shoulders, once a poor quality replacement bridge was removed, the holes from the ill fated plastic bridge were evident (used in 64/65). Many of the plastic bridged guitar had peg holes in a gentle arch which is the case here. The neck profile also supports the date assignment.
