A reworked Herk Favalli F8 from the mid 60s. An affordable player grade option to a D18.

The Favalli family produced guitar from the 1890 through the 1960s. Many important luthiers, including D’Angelico apprenticed in the New York based shop. The F8 is an OM sized guitar that meet the needs of players from the folk and coffee venues of New York City in the 1960. Most of these guitar were played hard and loved. Sadly few are in exceptional shape and most need substantial work. This beauty was no exception.

The neck was reset, the sound board was radiused. to 16 ft (making it more comfortable for the modern player). The guitar was refretted with medium frets. A new saddle matched the new radius and the nut were also worked accordingly. While the back and sides are sound and solid mahogany, the spruce top has several crack repairs (all cleated and ready to go). Sound hole braces were added to help stabilize the top and increase the longevity of the instrument.

The back was resprayed and the top appears to have been resprayed sometime in the past (nitrocellulose).

While OM sized and ladder braces, the guitar is very full sounding Increasing the radius gives the guitar the modern feel it was lacking. The action 4.5/64 bass and treble.

We worked to save this guitar and make it appealing to play. It sounds great and has surprising sustain. Its tone is very close to a D18, with which it competed in the day. You will be hard pressed to find a solid wood American made instrument of this quality (albeit player grade) at this price point.

If you need a pick-up added it can be arranged.
