For your consideration a Strat style 1966 Kalamazoo kg2 stabilized and reworked to keep on playing.
A garage band guitar from the 1960s. Gibson’s answer to the challenges from Fender and the over seas guitars of the time.
What players love about this guitar: the melody maker single coil pickups/sound, the neck and the weight. What players don’t like: the tremolo/tuning stability, the single coil hum and the pickguard screws pop. To make matters worse many of these guitar were fitted with a wrap around bridge. Don’t get us wrong, a good wrap around substantially improve this instrument, but the Masonite body just couldn’t take the strain. The bridge inserts wore , damaging or crack the body. As such, many of these guitars were simply parted and the bodies and neck discarded.
There are, however simple cost effect ways to keep these fun little gems running.
1. We fiberglass reinforce a section of the interior cavity to stabize the bridge peg holes. This allows for a wrap around bridge
2. We shielded the interiors with conducting paint, removing much of the hum.
3. Use wooden pegs to shore up the pickguard screw holes as needed.
None of these fixes are visible once the pickups and guard are back in place! We suggest; most if not all of these guitars need or will need this treatment in time.
We replaced the knobs, since two were rough. But the original knobs will included
The end product a cool vintage American made garage band guitar with all the wear and vibe of the 1960s at a great price. This is a must play, the pickups in these guitar are special. Every time we play one we marvel at the tone.
